The Sigiriya fortress was built by King Kashyapa between the period of 455 – 473 AD. This fortress consists of beautiful pleasure gardens which are categorized into five. They are,

• Miniature water gardens
• Fountain water gardens
• Water gardens
• Boulder gardens
• Terrace gardens

Sigiriya also consists of Frescoes which are paintings that were done in the 5^th century. It denotes various maidens some believe they are damsels, some believe they are royal princesses and queens, while some believe they are apsaras. You can also see the mirror wall which are highly polished terraces that were created using plaster. You can also see Sigiriya graffiti which are poems that were written by passers-by during that era.
